Lightbulb Special Tricks with Angel Eyes

Is there anyway to rig aftermarket angel eyes to turn on with the unlock button of the key fob? Since one click is unlock driver door, two clicks unlock all doors and turns on interior lights, could three clicks turn on angel eye rings? I have the angel eye headlamps ready to install but haven't had the time, planning on doing it this weekend. I think that if this custom illumination could work, it would be the most badass thing ever.

I have a 03' BMW X5 3.0 E53 in Topaz Blue with grey interior. Custom x-pipe exhaust with custom tips, spacers, fender flares, angel eye headlamps (coming soon), white interior lights, white license plate lights...

If it can be done, it will involve coding with NCSexpert or other programs. There are other members who are more knowlegable with coding than i am. paging:TerminatorX5

However i know for a fact, with an autologic, you can make just about any exterior light to come on or not as the "home" lights. thats when the car is off and you flick the highbeams on before you leave. Not sure with the key though

I am curiously where i should splice the trigger wire. The instruction manual says to splice on the ignition wire. I presume that that would mean that the angel eyes would turn on whenever i started the engine, not when i pressed the key fob, etc. Where would i need to splice the trigger wire do have it available for coding?

So you have aftermarket headlight with AEs. You don't need coding to have it work (coding won't help in your case)
Tap the power wire to your existing corner light would do the trick. PM me if you need help.

If you buy a cheap harness online, you could get the halos to turn on when you hit the remote.

Something cheap like this should work: BMW E46 3 Series Remote on CCFL LED Angel Eye Headlight Wiring Kit | eBay

Then when you splice into the ignition, the halos are always on when the ignition is on. You also get to splice into the footwell lights, which turn on when you hit the remote as the interior lights also turn on; you then get the halos to be powered when the remote is pressed.

did you say - '03? are your headlights "openable"? well, aside from the actual logistics of shoving the rings into the housing, the wiring of the lights is what you will make out of it... whatever you wire, i would strongly suggest to use a relay for the trigger wire, as to avoid "feeding" the rings from active circuitry in the engine bay - most of the power lines (and signal lines as well) are balance load lines, meaning, that if you introduce additional load, thus increasing the current flow (higher amperage), the computers that control various functions may think that the original "client" is short circuited and may throw codes or may adjust other variables in the car. When you use a relay, the additional load introduced by a relay is very small (I prefer 30mA relays, from Radio Shack), and it is falling within the tolerance specs and you can use the actual power directly from the battery (the jumping post under the hood, you can tap into it from behind, make it less visible).

once you have the relay, you can tap it to ANYWHERE you wish, including the inside lights that dim in and out, or to any other line in the car...

Programming of the light would be involved from 2004 models and on, that have factory AEs - and so far we did not find a line that activates those AEs as the daytime running lights, as desired by so many here... I did not dig into it deep, not enough time in the day... lol... I am wiring up my AV for the radio and the AV for the TV module, trying to keep everything stock factory...

I have new headlamps, not just CCFL rings. I had stock halogen, but now I bought DEPO Bi-xenon Angel Eyes. They have their own relay and ballast and all. But my question is where do I splice the angel eye trigger wire to have the control to flip them on with a triple click of the unlock button on the key fob? or is this not possible? They say that no relay is necessary with this splice since it is just a trigger wire. The headlamps are hooked into the battery.

ahh... then, it is a different story... you don't need to worry about baking the lights and whatnot...

there is no triple click on the remote sender - one click sends a burst of one message, and the second click sends a burst of a different message, that is being interpreted by the alarm system, and then the doors unlock, the engine released to be cranked (still needs to match the key)...

so, this leaves you with the hardwiring... since the trigger wire is true trigger, you can wire it to the closest wire that gives you desired function - in this case, probably to the front footwell inside lights - you feed the wire through the firewall into the cabin, and tap into the wire of the light. you need to figure out how you want to tap, using a splice, or a wire tap, or solder, or some other way... this is in case if you want the AEs to work with inner lights... or, using a voltmeter, find a hot on ignition wire in the engine bay, the E-box, behind the windshield fluid tank, very next to the glass itself... there are many wires, many relays and some fuses... once you find something, make sure you do not disturb the neighboring wires...

I have read many threads on Angel eyes, never read that someone has done what you want to do.
