You're correct for now...but if you move up to a BMW model that is newer than our generation (the ones with iDrive etc)...BMW uses an
IBS (intelligent battery sensor) that monitors the charging system between the alternator & battery...and adjusts the output of the alternator as the battery ages.
With this system, a new battery requires "coding" (yeah, more complication).
