Really, watch an episode of Wheeler Dealer, 8 yr old MBs that have undersides that look like rust flakes holding hand.

Rolling thru NM a few months ago I had to stop and check out an auto salvage yard with DOZENS of +50 yr old restorable vehicles out front. Looked underneath a few early '60s VWs and was amazed at the condition.
The 2 I owned in the 70s were rotted thru the floors when I got them (NJ)!

While searching the used X market in FL I came across a few with significant underside rust, Carfax pull showed they were transplants brought to FL from the NE. Walked.

I had to order the 12pt 36mm axle nut socket. Otherwise I have had everything I needed so far.

It should work. I prefer thick wall 6pt sockets for high torque applications, reduced chance of splitting.

The nut is an oddball 12 point deal that a 6 point would not fit.

Sorry about that, my bad. I thought it was 6pt.

Believe it or not I got the exact 12pt 36mm socket for $8.99 from Pep Boys, granted I checked twice and it was out of stock, but the third time it was there.

GearWrench brand too. I use it on my oil filter housing as well since that is 36mm 6 pt.

Not as uncommon as one might think if you can get it in Pep Boys lol!

I'll gladly offer a ride cross-country in my 2002. At 242,000 miles it's still as reliable as anything I've ever driven. And big trips and 60 mile commutes have gotten the mileage up there. I've had the usual repairs, an alternator, expansion tank, four window regulators, one door handle carrier and a couple of FSRs. With one exception, I've just done proper maintenance with things like brake fluid flushes and hose changes. The only disappointment was the failure of the front driveshaft splines, and I still can't believe there hasn't been a recall on that - some engineer was asleep when that was designed to engage less than an inch into the transfer case. But as I sweep around a tight Dallas cloverleaf at 45 mph...all is well!

2002 X5 3.0 242,000 miles
2004 325i 107,000 miles
