I may have to go back to re-torque the nuts and bolts on that plate - wasn't too happy with the job I did, I think I may have over torqued them.

Excellent write up! I was looking all over the web and various forums for a detailed write up and yours was exactly what I was looking for. I actually attempted the job this past weekend and failed once I saw how hard the top torx bolt was to reach and undo. I have since ordered the correct tools and should be giving it a try again this or next weekend. One thing though, the bold size on mine was the e12 torx. Don't know if they're different but mine's an 03.
Also wasn't aware I needed new bolts like you do when doing a cylinder head job due to the torque specs. I'll post an update once I am successfully done with the project.

Thanks so much for this write up! This saved me a lot of cash. I bought a used starter off ebay for $45 bucks and after 2-3 hours the car started up without the painful grinding and squealing! Just an added note, You can use a 10mm wrench to get the T60 bolts off. I couldn't find any store that sold the female Torx wrenches so I improvised.

So my startup squeal is attributed to the starter because we've checked the belts and tensioners. Great writeup - something on the to do list

Thanks for the write up... I am curious, how many miles on the car before the starter gave it up?

Hi Fellas - Haven't been around lately. Sorry for the delayed response. I am not sure I still have those PDF's. I will have to check and see.
