BMWhat app

I'm sure many of you must have already known this app. BMWhat, available on both Android and iTune.

Cool thing about it is it gives you DTC codes. That's all I want. Compared to $150 Peake Reader, I'm happy with it. Anybody with more experience?

Tried the Lite version. Developer says I can send in the session-log file, and they can send me the codes. Haven't tried that yet.

Is it not in the Google Play store?

https://play.google.com/store/search...c=apps&price=2

What does this app do that Torque can't?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...g.prowl.torque

Torque only gives generic Fault Code, which is P plus 4 digits. But for BMW, DTC codes are most accurate, in terms of pointing to a specific faulty part. Hope this will help.

You can use a generic code reader with the BMWhat app right? Some special code reader isn't required is it? I would presume a regular one would do...

I found it using an Google search rather than searching on the Play store:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...whatFull&hl=en

Pretty expensive at almost $60. It's not clear that will work with E53 though the description says that E39 is supported. There's a "lite" version that the dev recommends testing before purchasing the full version:

A $10 bluetooth OBD reader will do. Amazon Link

It connects fine with my 01' E53, and reads ECU's.

I agree. But I found some earlier FULL version for download FOR FREE. Just google it. Maybe it can save you bunch of $$.

Do you mean an older version the dev released for free or a pirated version? I'm not interested in the latter.

Anyone using this or similar with an iPhone?
