Torque only gives generic Fault Code, which is P plus 4 digits. But for BMW, DTC codes are most accurate, in terms of pointing to a specific faulty part. Hope this will help.

Pretty expensive at almost $60. It's not clear that will work with E53 though the description says that E39 is supported. There's a "lite" version that the dev recommends testing before purchasing the full version:
