And my thoughts on side marker lights is this.. They are meant for people on the side and behind you to see your lane change.. The front blinker is for front light indication.. And 3 leds have gotta be brighter than one little dinky halogen.

Since I have owned my X since new I have also tried many other tires. The Conti have been on for a few thousand miles. So far I am very pleased with wear and handling. The seem to rollover more but I got used to that. It doesn't seem to compromise grip. I think you will be very pleased with them.

Correct, the lights on the side fender (also known as repeaters) are to notify drivers who may be coming up along side and have already passed the rear turn signal, or have it blocked by the passenger side A-pillar.

The second part regarding brightness is sort of misguided.....that "dinky halogen" will have a higher overall brightness across the lateral plane (appear in a more consistent brightness level to an upcoming driver) than an led side marker because although the led is more intense, they have a rather narrow spread.

Hey S since you dropped in, do you know if the side markers (LED versions) do a flashing sequence at cold monitoring startup? No one has mentioned it here and although we might not get errors, the side markers I'm sure have cold checks.

Point in example is although my LED tail lights are error free, I still had to have cold checks coded off in order to have truly factory operation.

I'm curious if everyone is starting up their X with these markers and they run through a cold check flashing sequence, one wouldn't know it unless you had someone outside looking at the X.

Hell, I probably wouldn't have my cold checks coded off on my tails to this day if my wife wasn't following me home one day from the indy, and said when we got home "why do your tail lights look like strobe lights when you start the car?"

Cadesto if you can confirm the lights don't run through startup cold checks (i.e. have someone sit in the car while you are outside and start the X, let me know what happens), and if you can get the rubber seals on the bulbs as they are designed as a gasket to keep moisture out, I'd probably get a set. Otherwise I'll just stick with the old halogens lol.

If I recall (im like 80% sure), there was a sidemarker cold & hot check option in the scanner 1.4.0 which was coded off from the get go.....but Im wondering if it's dependent on cluster though? Regardless, even if there is a cold check that needs to be addressed, for many of us here its a simple procedure.

if I had Cadesto's ride, I would put ambers on. I like the contrast of the amber to the black

wish they made them in crystal version (as opposed to the boring waffle design)

I painted mine with VHT Nite Shades and put a standard white bulb in them. They now have the smoked look I wanted and are plenty bright enough for me. You can now buy led bulbs to replace the old versions and that could be a possible choice for you. I think you can get the leds in amber also.

Ordered these last night:

Found a seller in Florida who sells them on Bimmerforums, will install after they arrive and post pics, I tossed my original white markers 2 years ago when I bought the X, they had seen better days!
