what do these vacuum hoses do?

was under the hood swapping the air filter and just glanced over and noticed to hoses that were unhooked. one was around 1/4" and one was 3/8". they go over to some stuff on the driver side firewall but I cant seem to find the vacuum diagram or what the stuff is in the Bentley manual.

anyway, it didn't run rough or toss codes at me while these were unhooked but I did hook them back up.

anyone?

then I noticed this other hard plastic hose hooked to the oil dipstick. kind of looks like a vent tube but I want to make sure it just isn't simply broken.

anyone?

Can't tell for sure since no info on the X was given. Could be the vent pipe for front axle final drive, according to realOEM.

2001 3.0 x5 if that helps and yeah, that looks like the vent pipe. probably why its bent over so water doesn't get inside it when people pressure wash it.

that particular vent pipe is not for the final drive, rather, it is for the transmission vent.

there is ANOTHER very similar vent pipe for the front diff a bit closer to the front of the motor.

both are there so that if the tranny or final drive is submerged in water, the water will not enter the unit.both are there so that if the tranny or final drive is submerged in water, the water will not enter the unit.
