Sensor
Hi guys iv read a lot about removing silencers and fitting x pipes on my 4.6is so I go look at doing it today and find there is a sensor just behind the front silencer. What do you guys do with this sensor when removing the two front silencers? Cut the wires and remove with the silencer? Also there is a strange little cylinder on side of the silencer, what is this.

I think you are mistaken, sounds to me like you're referencing the cats up front. The X pipe gets installed midsection.

I was thinking they looked like cats but then I read that the cats were on the down pipe then there was two silencers and then the centre section which sounded abit extreme so I believe now that what I read as silencers are the cats. Il be installing the cross pipe and may even change the rear silencers. Thanks for your reply

The pieces you're referencing are definitely the cats. You definitely DO NOT want to go cutting any wires (O2 sensors) as you'll end up with a check engine light.
The X pipe gets installed in place of the center "canister" aka resonator....you can use realOEM to help you identify whats what underneath. Good luck

That's great, it's confirmed what I was thinking. I couldn't see why a silencer would have 02 sensors hence walking away and asking first. Iv either been reading wrong info or it's just the terminology that English and US use to describe different parts of exhaust system.
Thanks again for the reply. |

There is risk of an irritating drone when you are on the motorway depending on what you do. I suggest doing something someone else is happy with.
Are you after more performance or a better sound?

I only drive a few miles to work, and usually not even that as I have a work van and work away alit so this is just a toy really so drone doesn't bother me. I'm after better noise, I was going to try the x pipe then maybe the rear silencers depending on noise, il just make it to suit.

If you haven't already, there are several youtube videos with various different combinations of exhaust sounds that might help you.
