02 bmw x5 e53 - cigarette lighter adapter

So the cigarette lighter adapter does not work but the fuse is not broken (I checked)
i searched online and saw the actual piece for the lighter socket for about $5 and so I thought I would just change it myself.
By reading online and looking at some videos, they all seem to show that I have to take apart the whole system, basically.

Is there a way to replace the lighter socket without taking too many things apart?
