You want to talk about low trade in value? I went to the local Bimmer dealership, wanted some numbers on getting my wife an E70 diesel a couple months ago, my wife's 2011 Rav4 is loaded, just over 2 years old, 32k miles, excellent condition. Sticker on the car was $33k in August of 2011, we paid just under 29k I believe.

Trade in value on it? "Between 13-15k". 50% DEPRECIATION IN 2 YEARS!

And I thought the Japanese cars were supposed to hold their value??? It really is a buyers market, ESPECIALLY with used vehicles, bc the new ones just aren't holding value.

This thread makes me sad. I was going to try to sell mine off next spring and hope for $18K. Guess that isn't happening. Need to seriously think about keeping vs taking a financial hit.

^I said it's a "buyer" market first. RB copied me.

I think im going to wait out the market. I purchsed a 2009 subaru legacy in 2010. At the time the car had 15k miles and was selling for about 15k. I ended up paying more because I extended the warranty on it. FWD about 2 years after I purchased the car....I started to look at them again to see if I could find a reasonable stick shift because I got bored of the auto. Well, they were going for 18 to over 20k for the same vehicle with more miles. Even now with about 50 to 60k miles, they are selling for around 12 to 13k.

I kicked around the idea of selling my S3 but I doubt I'd get near what it's worth to me as a well maintained machine.

But seriously it took me for ever to get mine too. I ain't selling it till it pisses me off.

Hahaha... Yeah I'm gonna sell it D. Nah... c'mon you know me. I'll fix anything on the car before I let it go. I want to start a new business project and just need the cash to get it started. I figured when the business takes off... I'll but 4.8is and a X5M and sit them next to each other, lol. Worst car ever built would probably be the Cadillac Deville circa 2001-2003. Gm calls the Northstar motor a "Replacement" motor. Anytime something goes wrong, they just suggest a new motor. lol.

Oh and between the 4.4 and the 4.8... they have both pissed me off plenty... but I still love them. lol.

Any dealer is going to use black book or most recent auction records for your type of vehicle for price...thats all your gonna get. They dont care bout service history, rarity, cleanliness, etc etc UNTIL after they got it from you and try to sell that rare, well maintained, clean only driven to church and car show gem they have.

The only chance you have of getting a fair price is private sale and not through craigslist through an enthusiast website cuz its just considered an SUV to everyone else. Also, the new model year 2014 cars are out which means even more depreciation PLUS its winter coming so everyone dumps them at same time trying to cash in on those looking for winter transport.

I couldnt get anywhere near what I spent but thats ok as I have no plans to turn it over any time soon. Good luck all with your sale.

If it gives you all any hope I did see an 03 4.6is at an enthusiast shop in OH with 80k miles sell for $18500 and in under a week for full price.
