I'm confused too.

Does the tick happen before you start the car? Or does it only happen after you start the car?

maybe while hes starting the engine he gets a ticking noise which would be the battery doesn`t have enough juice to turn the engine over I don`t know if thats what he means or not just a guess.

That's what I was thinking too, but then he says while the engine is running, not dead. I'm getting a headache.

Let's tackle on thing at a time--If you don't know or can't find out what weight oil you have I would change the oil to an appropriate 0-40wt oil or at least a 5-40 wt oil. We need to know if that fixes the ticking noise when the engine first starts to run when it is cold started.

How many miles ago was the oil changed?

How many miles would you estimate you have driven in the last 6 months and what weight oil is in your X now? No one is suggesting you go to a heavier weight oil. We are suggesting a lighter weight oil unless that is what is in your X now.

The more miles on the oil and/or the heavier the weight oil the greater the likelihood you will hear a ticking noises when the X has been sitting overnight in cold weather.

If you let your X for 2-5 hours after you have driven it a block or two and then start it up do you hear the ticking noise?

If you record what you are hearing and post it on Youtube we would have a better idea what is going on.

Same question--what weight oil is in the engine?
