Finding X53 OEM Accessories

What a pain! No trailer hitch assemblies [Part No. 71600009711] at dealers near Atlanta; they had one at Sonnen BMW at Santa Clara, CA, but, per their parts guy, too cumbersome for them to ship. Similarly, no OEM cargo area liner [Part No. 51470029245], though I have ordered the weathertech cargo mat that fits my slide-out floor. If anyone has thoughts on where I can find these items, please pass along. Its looking like my best aftermarket option for the cargo area liner is the spendy cargoliner.com version. Anyone have experience with that item, or thoughts on a source for the OEM hitch kit? Yes, I have done the forum searches, and know about ecstuning as a source.

I just realized I can get a OEM carpeted floor mat for my trunk (I have slide out floor), I'm so happy for that because vaccuming the actual load floor is such a pain in the ass. 84 bucks.

However, yes it sometimes is hard to find these parts as the cars are going on 14 years old now so they aren't always top priority for dealers to stock parts. Hence why the OEM decorative skid plate was discontinued

Yep, one football game tailgate with my slide out floor [and one vacuuming] convinced me I needed a mat/pad that fit. Fortunately, Weathertech has one cut to fit the slide out - and they make good products. I need the rubber [not carpet] liner as Max the Wonderdog tends to carry a little mud/sand/dirt into the back after walks in the woods ....

OP - If you need a trailer hitch kit, call Sonnen back and ask for Oscar. Tell him Michael referred you to him for the trailer hitch. If you need, I can pick it up and ship it for you - you just have to cover shipping. I know of two to three places I can get you the trailer hitch.

Ahhhh, for Max I see. Makes sense. The wifes Toyota is our "Bulldog hauler", she bought gray interior specifically so it wouldn't drive me crazy seeing his short little white hairs on the black interior of the X!

That's him in my avatar, 71 lb American Bulldog = lots of little hairs everywhere (we should buy stock in Dyson lol)

Max the Wonderdog is an aging [11 y/o+] lab/chow mix, 65 lbs. He loved riding in my [his?] old F350 truck [and could jump into its supercab], but will need a pet ramp to get in the X5. His first ride/trip will be T-giving to a nearby state park for a hike before we chow down on turkey. The weathertech mat will be installed by then, though a cargo cover will be needed eventually because he will insist on me folding the back seats down so he can peer over my shoulder and supervise driving. The things we do for dogs!

Amen brother, every day is a blessing with them, Chad just turned 7 in August, enjoy it and best wishes for Max's continued health. I can understand why he would need a pet ramp, the back tailgate of the X is steep!

And obviously you can't keep him in the rear, how is he supposed to watch the road for you all the way back there???

On the X5 accessories front, I broke down and ordered coco floor mats [cocomats.com] to replace the bwm rubber versions in mine; black w/natural dots. They have a sale on, enter code COCO15 and save 15 bucks. Very nice mats, beautiful & rubber backed, won't slide around, as does the driver side bmw rubber one. Check 'em out; I've had their product in other vehicles and was very pleased.
