1 year old OEM epansion tank bursts in heavy traffic

Honolulu Sat night traffic caused my 1 year old OEM expansion tank to burst two blocks away from our destination. Had it towed home cursing at the crappy design and piss poor BMW engineering. Door locks, door handles, window regulators, crappy cooling system list goes on and on. Enough is enough.

Sorry to hear that! I wonder why? I would have expected a hose/seal to blow out before the tank.

Did you replace the expansion tank or a Dealer did the replacement? Sounds like the cooling system might not have been bled correctly.

Guess not everything is wonderful in the Land of Paradise!!!

things dont just spontaneously combust, as upallnight said, perhaps system wasn't bled correctly, overfilled level causing too much pressure, did BMW replace the tank one year ago or did an indy? if you got it done by BMW they should stand by their parts (is it 2 year parts warranty?)

Sounds like it was poorly built, not poorly designed. You say OEM. Do you mean OE, from the dealer, or was it from someone claiming it was just as good as an original BMW one?
