Is it just me or is the market saturated with 4.8is's?

I;ve just been putzing around lately; nothing really of value to take bandwidth up on the forum so just been trolling around. Lately, looking around in the FS section and on other sites, a lot of people are moving on from their 4.8is??? I remember when I was in the market for mine, it was hard to find even one that was worth looking at... Now... There are a lot of good looking ones out there. I've had mine listed for 3 months and all I have been getting were lowball numbers of just north of $9K. Told them all to kick rocks.

On a side note... just detailed the interior today and ohhhh baby does she look good. hahaha. And then went to move to the outside... one wheel looked darker than the other... Look closer and I have a CV boot that exploded... Awesome. New boot ordered. Tried to start her up to move her... Battery died...(Within Warranty period) I guess I had the doors open too long all day today. haha. But atleast she smells brand new inside...

HAHAHAHAHAHA I KNEW that was coming!!! As soon as I sent it, I said it. 'Pics or it never happened." Its dark.. I'll snap em tomorrow and post em. Yea, just trying to find the free time. Been busy trying to start the new project and then juggling dates, and trying to get sleep. Its been a hectic few months.

Yeah I still have her and she's still great. Last month it was acting funny... Kept doing this funny thing of the radio shutting off, ABS, Brake, 4x4 inact, self susp inact, and trans failsafe. Then the radio would cut in and out and the sound would only come out the rear. So I pull over and do the drill... Shut her down and restart and it cracked really slow. Then it would catch and it would be ok, but would lose all date like Date/Time, etc. So I'm thinking freak occurance... 4 days later, did the same thing. Pulled over, left the car running and whipped out the volt meter 14.5 v. I'm saying, damnnnnnnn. Shut it down, test it again... Battery reads 8.4v. I'm like, WTF? So I get the battery back to BMW they say I need to leave it overnight for them to test it. I was a little annoyed with it, but left it. They call back... Say battery was fine and that it read 12.2v. So I asked them to put a load on it... Bascially I was told, "We're BMW, we know what were doing.... You're not getting a new battery." Fine. Put it back in and everything is good. Same day, does the same crap. Re-read, 7.5 v. Awesome. So I bring it back and tell them that the thing is shot. Here is my receipt, you deal with it. So right now I'm hauling a Bosch from the 4.8 that was originally in there before I replaced it. I just never turned it in for a core. So hopefully I get an answer in the next day or two that they will just replace the damn thing. But atleast with the Bosch... the last 2 weeks... it hasn't done it. SO I am whippin it down to a defective battery.

Glad to hear you're still around with your black beast, Young. Even if you need a 100 bucks for a battery and a few hours replacing a cv boot that's not bad!

And true, 3 nice clean 4.8's in the classifieds now (relentless ones lemans, an imola red beaut, and one more I forget) but just keep in mind they have been sitting a bit all asking 19k or so. If I had the extra coin and could convince my wife to trade her Rav4 in, I'd get her one of the 4.8's in the classifieds. She would never go for it though, after the 2 years of catch up maintenance/repairs on my '03 5 speed. However, the last few months she is running like a top without a hiccup!

Lot of threads lately with n62 engine problems lately as well so I'm hoping that doesn't bring anyone's value down lol!

Hahaha, yeah I wish the battery was $100. My invoice from Circle was 202.10 for the new battery from them back in 10/12. And hell... I've replaced so many CV boots... I can do it with my eyes closed... Except for one this I noticed on the 4.8 that doesnt happen with the 4.4. It might have to do with X drive. On the 4.4, once I place the puller on the hub and begin to back the axle out, the hub stays put. But when I did the pass side on the 4.8 a few months ago... The damn hub kept spinning. Finally I just stuck an old rotor on it, pinned it to lock it to the garage floor and did it that way. Otherwise, yeah all is good with her. The only bear with the interior cleaning today was getting all my my dogs hair out of the cargo area (Golden Retriever) Thank god for Dyson.

Anyways, yeah all those 4.8's look really good. Funny thing is none of them really have full pictures of everything. I think the Imola one is missing interior pics... I dunno. I have mine listed for $17K and I was going to include the second sent of snow shoes to the new owners. I had people email and call saying, "Well ill give you $6K sight unseen. or $9k Cash." It makes me chuckle because I'll fire back and say... well I want you to come see it and how else you gonna pay for it? Skittles? So it makes me laugh. I haven't had one solid offer yet.. but these things take time.

its funny, I NEVER understand why people say "cash". What else would I take???????
Its either cash or a certified cheque/bank draft (and those are basically just cash anyhow).
foolish people saying I'll give you $9k CASH...
I've often asked what they mean by it as I'm not accepting chickens, an ex-gf or another mans car.
if I Wanted to trade or barter for items, I'd have said so in my sale ad.

Well there are a lot of scams involving the checks, so cash is the 100% safe alternative

Please send pics of ex-girlfriend (or chickens).

A few weeks ago there were 3 or 4 4.8iS' in Vegas for sale… I think people are scared of the maintenance (rightly so) and fuel economy (somewhat puzzling given the number of monster SUVs out there).

I thought for sure being the only Lemans for sale in a 100 mile radius back in August would help me sell it, but you guys are right, everyone wants a deal. I got a bunch of calls and emails about mine, but very few serious offers. One couple that stopped by for a test drive didn't even know that a 4.8is was special, the wife just saw the pretty blue color, lol. I knew immediately I wouldn't be hearing from them again. I think $18-20k is very reasonable for these cars in the 80k mile range, you just have to find someone who appreciates them, knows the maintenance costs, and still wants to own one.

People are still in the "really good cash deal" phase ever since the recession started almost 6 years ago now.

Back when it started people were unloading their rides, bikes etc for cheap bc people were losing their jobs, houses etc and legitimately needed cash money on the spot to pay bills, not necessarily bank check, personal check, whatever, bc people needed to throw it in the account and pay bills, creditors etc THAT DAY and avoid the paper trail for anyone sweeping bank accounts.

To me, a banks check is just as good as a fistful of c-notes. But these hustlers want to lowball and throw the whole "I'll come ASAP and bring CASH!" deal at you to get you excited and make you take less than you'd want, bc a few years ago when people were desperate, it might have worked. I also love the guys who want you to hold your car for them while they "get money together", or ask if you want to take a tv or video games, dirt bikes, wrecked street bikes etc in addition to cash.

But now, people know what their rides are worth, whether they need to offload them, and their parting prices. So in my opinion most people ask for reasonable offers and they either get someone who's serious and makes a reasonable one or they don't.

In your case, they haven't to this point, which makes me happy bc we miss seeing you around here.

For what its worth, last year when I sold my VW, I priced it 1k above blue book value, I had a guy who called me and we agreed on price over the phone, (500 below blue book, my car was clean!), he flew out with a bank check and drove it home. It made no extra value for him to travel with 16k in cash on the plane like some wannabe cartel, lol!

P.s. : put a socket extension in between the rotor vanes and caliper next time when pushing the axle inward, don't know why its rotating but maybe that would help!
