Replacement Trunk Struts

I am looking to replace the struts on my rear hatch due to the fact that they are not lifting very well anymore. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or experience with replacements other than OEM?

Here are the choices from ecstuning. Any other suggestions appreciated.

BMW OEM $43.18 each
MTC $16.46 each
Stabilus $33.95 each
ÏRO $12.95 each

Get OEM or Stabilus if you want to save 20 bucks, but don't waste your time with MTC or Uro cheap made in Cheena junk

I looked at the OEM ones and they are made by Stabilus. Makes that an easy decision. Thanks for the advice.

I noticed ECS does that a lot which I like when ordering my parts. They usually offer the manufacturers part who also makes the OE genuine part, with a few bucks savings. Nice.

My experience with Stabilus in my 2005 Volvo XC90 is so-so. After a year, it is still OK but when it is cold, the 1-year-old Stablius barely holds it up.
It is made in North Carolina for that matter (not made in Germany).

Back to the X5, rmeuropean lists 2 choices: Stabilus and Tuff for the same amount $18-$19 range. Anyone here with experience using Tuff?

Wonder if the E53 Stabilus are made in North Carolina as well - I think you couldn't go wrong with either but I have not heard of Tuff Support on these forums personally
