DISA valve flap remains inside the intake manifold

3.0 engine started misfiring really bad in the last few days, check engine light is on with multiple cylinder misfires. I've checked the spark plugs and they were fine.

When I've attempted to pull the DISA valve it was stuck and hard to pull it out, after some tugging and pulling it finally came out, but to my surprise the flap was no longer attached to the DISA valve and i could not see it inside the manifold. The small bolt was sitting right in the middle and i was able to extract it.

Do i need to pull the intake manifold to look for the flap? What damage could it cause if i leave it there? In my opinion the worst thing it could cause is to disrupt the air flow to whatever cylinder it is lodged in. I've placed new DISA valve on order, need to car for daily commute.

Thanks

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
Well the flap would be inside the intake manifold, and probably shredded into a bunch of plastic pieces, no bueno.

If you care about your motor you will pull the manifold open and find it.

This is why DISA inspection is so important on the M54!

worst thing that could happen is the flap shreds and then gets stuck to the inside of a couple of the intake valves. if its plastic like everyone says then it could melt to the inside of the valve seat and not allow the valve to fully close which would definitely cause a misfire in whichever cylinders arent able to close completely...until the plastic burns off but by then it will probably have burned the valves or valve seats from the combustion escaping the cylinder through the gap.

thats just one freakish thing that could happen.

You have some works ahead of you. I would definitely looking for the plastic flap.
The buyers of my last 2 bimmers would be happy to know that I had the GAS kit on the DISA valve.

The flap is secure with a pin at the top of the flap. Normally the pin would fall out. If you didn't find the pin better not drive the X until you do or else you risk damage to the engine since the pin is small enough to get suck in a cylinder.

He said he found the steel pin on top. First post.

The GAS kit is golden.

He said he found a small bolt, if you can't tell the difference between a bolt and a pin you shouldn't be working on cars.
