Replacing alternator - what else should I replace?

Going to replace the air cooled alternator on 2006 4.4 N62 engine due to oil damage. Vehicle has 75000 miles on it, is there anything else I should change like tensioner pulleys, etc?

Thanks,
Matt

It was my valve cover that was leaking, did not realize it was getting into alternator until it starting have voltage issues.

I'm just looking for anything that routinely wears out and is a good idea to proactively replace while I have it apart. I think I'm going to just replace the belt unless I get a strong recommendation for other parts.

Thanks!

Check all pulleys and tensioners. They shouldn't spin very easily. If they do it is likely you will hear a rattle or growling type noise. Replace any that are bad. I would replace the belts. I would leave everything else alone.

so you don`t recommend replacing water pump, hoses, and thermostat. (just a question)

You can and some do, especially if they don't know the history of the vehicle or if it is a new but used purchase. If that was the case for me I might do the same, and would be more likely to do so if I was driving a lot of miles each month. No way to challenge the process but since I DIY, most of the time I am in the--- if it's not broken don't fix it.

On the other hand, if the water pump was bad rather than the alternator, I would change the hoses in the area and also the thermostat as they don't cost much and I have the cooling system drained. I would also check any other hoses carrying coolant thoroughly and replace as needed.

I have had my 4.6 since new and have 110,000mi. on it. I have changed one hose, never changed the water pump, thermostat or the alternator.

I wait for most stuff to show symptoms.

I got just over 200000km on mine just got it back in june, there weren`t much in repairs that I know off with what receipts that came with it. I did check the coolant hoses and all seems good there not spongee at all no leaks. just the valve cover started leaking at the back of the engine near the firewall so thats getting replaced on the 3rd of jan now. I drive about 10000km a year average on any vehicle Ive owned, usaully drive about 1500km on my hollidays. but I`m thinking of doing the ccv in the summer myself for a piece of mind unless there is a way of checking/testing it.I`m getting the bently repair manual for xmas so maybe it`ll say something in there.

If there is a problem with CCV there will be symptoms such as using more oil, smoke out the tail pipes, engine running rough or even unusual noises from under the hood. There are some shade tree tests that always cause a debate of their worth. The only test that is not challenged is the test used by BMW techs, not necessarily those at the dealer.
