Yeah, I replace the tranny in the old 4.6is and it was $4500, it was done by some jerk in Westchester that said he knew what he was doing. It was never right even after the rebuild.
Good luck Mike.

Mike have you gotten any diagnosis from a shop on whether its X-fer case or tranny yet? Or both? Sucks either way but I know your X is getting up there in mileage and you drive it hard, somethings gonna give.

Are you still at that German shop in Edison?

These guys might be able to help you, they have autologic among other experience, the head tech and co-owner is one of the few certified Mercedes Black series techs around. I bring my X to them with any and all problems and they have no issues getting mine fixed right:

They do a TON of transmission rebuilds, limited slip installs, etc, I'd bring it to them if I were you if you want quality work done right.

RS WORX Tri-State's Premier European Repair & Performance Facility - Where Power Comes To Play : RS WORX Tri-State's Premier European Repair & Performance Facility

They are in Washington, NJ right now but moving to Green Brook on 22 next month in a new facility.
