Spare Tyre

Hi,

First of all I would like to say hi! This is my first post, and I am a very new X5 driver, just got my X yesterday!!

Couple of things with it that I wanted to run by ppl, firstly the right side speakers dont work for some reason, i have been told it may be the radio control module which is expensive, i hope its not that!!

Secondly the spare tyre is a full spare tyre but there is no wheel locking nut to hold it in place? I think there should be as it does rattle a bit and under it there is a thread in the metal boxy bit that looks like it have something screwed into it??

Does that make sense or am i speaking jibberish! lol

Sorry for my very technical and accurate description!

Urfan

Hi there Urfan,
Congrats on your new X. No jibberish detected here.

Best you do a U turn and head back to from whence you bought the X from and get them to fix both probs at nil charge.

From both issue descriptions I take it you didn't get an independant inspection done before you signed over, not good. These 2 probs are obviously on the surface, so what lies within ??????

Can't help you with speaker prob but the spare wheel is secured by a threaded rod with a large round grip plate which also acts as a floor deck support at the top with a rubber ring plus a convex oversize washer on top of the spare tyre. The large washer is secured by a wing nut. This keeps it where it belongs, nice n tight. See pic below & page 158 in the Manual. I hope you found an Owners Manual in the glove box.

Good luck with speaker and any other probs.

Foomph

Welcome Urfan ...

Speakers issue, are you sure that you have checked the "balance" on your headunit and it is in the middle? Do you have NAV or a single CD player with no monitor?

sorry to hi jack post but is there any easy way of pulling out this spare? they are so heavy even with the gear in place, I think i pulled a ligament or tendon in my shoulder on the 2nd of dec when swapping out battery and just about starting to recover......i got into rear and pulled up the tire to remove rather than pull up with the harness.....

Are you saying that you did NOT use the spare tire removal apparatus that facilitates removing the spare?

If you have a full size spare, you should have straps and a handle that you insert into the lower tail gate, then you lower the tail gate and lock it into place with the plastic support rod thingy. When you lower the door with the handle in place, the straps raise the spare up and allows you to slide it off the straps & over the tail gate.

The procedure is in the owners manual....and there's also and excellent video on youtube that shows how to use the apparatus. The spare tire apparatus is used starting about 2 minutes into the video below. Caution, remember to use the rod to support the tailgate and prevent it from spring back...the rod keeps the tail gate in the lowered position as you extricate the spare:

That's were you went wrong. Should have used the harness. Or call AAA.

More info about your radio please. could be an amplifier issue also. both front and rear speakers on the right side don't work? if just the front right, then it could be a wiring issue, possibly at the connector in the door frame by the hinges.

@Qsilver7, your youtube video didn't attach...
