msammy is on a distinguished road
USA is under a deep freeze, another CCV Oil Separator thread.

I know, I know, we've discussed this problem over and over, but I do have questions. Well, it finally happened to our glorious X5 after 12 years and with 143K miles. The temperature didn't get past 8 degrees today and on the way home from work, I blew some serious smoke out the ass-end of the Xer. I made it home, let her sit for a while, upon trying to start, she totally hydro-locked on me, wouldn't even crank over. I let her sit a while longer and cranked, cranked, cranked finally, wide open throttle and she started after some serious pre-start knocking sounds. I pulled her into the garage to thaw out tonight.

Now for the questions, what kind of damage can I expect? Just a separator repair about $2.5K or so? Is there anything else that should be replaced? Take her to the $tealer for repair or my trusted Indy?

I'm going to have the spark plugs replaced as they are due anyway. I'm thinking it's time to part with our beloved X5, she's been good and since I did make it home safely, technically, our Xer still has never left us stranded, so please talk me out of either selling or parting her out for good.

Anyone else have separator problems this week during this deep freeze they'd like to share? Stay warm my friends!
