well, looking at your post, i can say that you are at littledean, and probably have an E53 BMW... I would even go further, and speculate, that you got a fuel-operated E53, and not some weird electric hybrid...

other than that, what was the purpose of this post? I think everyone on this forum, as well on the other automotive forums, have problems with their vehicles using up fuel... no free rides here... unless it is a hay... err... barley ride....

Now, all jokes aside -

if you are looking for any sensible answer and not a smart-ass smirks that I just provided, please provide more information:

year, mileage, trim, engine size of your car... this will put your 15 MPG in prospective with the other folks with similar rides...

your location and type of driving - if you are in US, UK or AUS, or Middle East... different fuels... different terrain... driving habits - if you drive like a granny... or racing one traffic light at a time...

oil... i would agree with some people - internal combustion engines require periodic oil change... you have had the car 4 months, obviously did not change oil and probably do not know when the oil was changed last time - how can you ask for a maintenance advise if you do not have a basic baseline?

this is a very friendly forum, and we (myself including) welcome you to the Xoutpost... However, most of us are adults, and as a result, we are used to grown up talk - ask a sensible question, get a sensible answer...

you may consider an automatic signature line, so you will not have to repeat yourself everytime about your ride...

again, welcome to the forum...

If your mpg was "not bad and now really bad", an oil change can't 'hurt', but I doubt it will be a treatment or fix...

Assuming your driving habits/routes/conditions have not changed appreciably from the 'not bad' period to 'now', some other things may have changed or something may be amiss.

And, as Terminator suggested, add your model year, engine, trans, miles, general location, etc., either in your Sig or in a post.

Back at the Winter Ranch, the brutally cold weather of late is not conducive to good mpg.

And,
Nome, AK or Mississippi, or...?

Have your driven conditions or situ changed since you were getting 'good mpg' to now, not so good?

15 mpg, as an overall average, with stop and go, is pretty reasonable, imo.

Need more info.

I get around 23mpg on the motorway and 19mpg around town so your 15mpg is pretty naff. Maybe change your plugs?

Did you get all the maintenance up-to-dated? New spark plugs and O2 sensors (pre-cat) would improve mpg.
There might be some addictives change in gasoline in winter time too.
Also, look like you're running 20" wheels on it, in your avatar. That certainly not help. I used to avg about 15-16mpg on the old 3.0 with 90% city driving.

Your gas mileage is right where it should be, these things are gas pigs, doesn't matter if it's a 6 or 8 cylinder. Just google the X5 E53 specs and you'll see that you're ok, remember these things weigh almost 5000 pounds. So enjoy it, because when things start breaking you're really gonna be pissed...lol!!
