I might be wrong but I think the 2005 X5 3.0 is 16 mpg (city) and 20 mpg (hwy)
I would assume it would be the same if not worse for older model (i.e. 2002)
This is the MPG you should get when the car is brand new with fresh plugs/oil/coils/filter etc...
If you're driving in the city and getting one less MPG then that is acceptable. Also check tire air pressure, might give you 0.5 mpg increase or maybe more lol

Cant read your miles or speed? I thought the odometer is pixelated but is that not the same on all X's?

My 2002 with the 3.0, Steptronic and OEM trailer hitch scales at 4472 pounds. I'd say his wheel size has more to do with his lower mileage than anything, especially if it's primarily city with a lot of starts and stops. The tire/wheel combination may weigh less than the OEMs, but the moment of inertia is higher with the larger diameter wheels and actually takes more energy to accelerate. Also, I see it's 6 degrees centigrade in Littledean, UK right now and we all know that colder weather eats up the fuel too.

2002 X5 3.0 245,800 miles
2004 325i 109,000 miles

There are bulbs behind the cluster (see my post) You won't see anything in that block when the bulb burnt. It's not the dead-pixel problem.
I make a little PS picture to clarify.
