Mine has 150K on it (4.4I N62) and has broken down one time (alternator) and even when that happened it conserved enough juice to get me home.

my jeep story
before my X I drove a 1993 Grand Cherokee (actually branded as the Grand Wagoneer) but it was essentially a Cherokee. 5.2L V8. I sold it with 220K on it and running strong - although my wife refused to drive it...
![]() Steering - loose a hell; braking - get on em early and hit em hard, tow a boat - with ease anywhere, reliable very...left me stranded only one time. I personally would not steer someone away from the line but it's a totally different experience..OK 1993 to 2005 is a big jump in years so you'd expect some difference..I haven't driven the new breed... Anyway - they look good... Enjoy.

So you don't call brake lines that disintegrate from rust serious or dangerous...lol!! Several threads about this subject, here's one for you.http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ine-check.html

Any car that's been exposed to harsh climates like salt and snow can have brake line rot. Just keep up with it. The issues on the X5 are no where near the crap build quality that crystler exhibits.

odd question here, but instead of spending the money on a newer jeep, why not spend the money on the X5 to bring it up to being factory spec and better for a cheaper price?

Well a few reasons... is that (as mentioned by others) I have been stranded by the x5 the most then I have with any previous cars. I do have it decently maintained, but I didn't want to continue working on it, worrying about what is going to break next.
I wanted some piece of mind that I'd get to work daily ! I do plan to keep it and fix it up back slowly as I get more time and money ! Additionally the x5 is manual, and my fiance can't drive it (She has an a5) so we needed another larger car that she could drive once in a while. I looked at various suvs, (including the 4runner, which i had in the past). My buddy has the jeep overland and for the value it won me over after test driving a few different suvs. Granted it doesn't handle close to a car based suv (like the x5) but Im enjoying it so far !

The vid shows 6 tire blowouts while testing 7 dfferent Jeeps in the lane change test. What a POS!
Having owned a new '92, '99 and '02 Jeep GC, I can't count how many times they have failed/been flatbedded to dealers (over 30 times EASY!). The ex-wife INSISTED on buying them, all 3 were problems GALORE!!! I've posted on prior Jeep threads here about the laundry list of problems. Even seat frames that bent/broke (several times) in the '99 and '03. My ex was 115 lbs, I'm 6'1, 225 lbs. NEVER had a seat frame BEND/BREAK in ANY vehicle other then the Jeeps in 35 yrs of driving! Never off roaded any of them, as I told the GM at Countryside Jeep in Clearwater....Trail Rated my ASS, must have been an F rating! My X has over 175k miles and been flatbedded ONCE, waterpump failure.

Never owned an E34. Did BMW correct the issue and absorb costs?
Jeep constantly tried to charge me for replacement seat assemblies (frame, mounting tracks, cushions, leather covers, electric motors, the WHOLE ASS'Y), over $1000! Came to find out the Jeep techs were getting in the back seat, putting their feet on the sagging side and bending them each time until the metal frame finally SNAPPED from repeated bending! Had to get in the Service/General managers faces each time to get Jeep/Chrysler Corp to absorb the cost! Pointed out the Viper had dozens of 11.3 second runs with me in it and ZERO seat issues. Googled E34 bent seat frame. Seems the issue is a snapped cable that needs replacing allows one side of the seat to sag. NOTHING like the Jeep twisted seat issue caused by cheap/thin seatframe materal.
