Wrapping Cracked Trim

I want to wrap my interior trim, but some pieces do have a few cracks. I remember reading that the cracks would show through. Is this true? Is it a total waste or will the blemish be some imperfection you might happen to catch with the right lighting angle? I just can't stand the wood and wrapping seems to be the way to go.

Depending on how bad the cracks are, yes they might show through. You could always take the pieces to a body shop off the car and have them sand, smooth, and paint the wood trims a color of your choosing. Shouldn't be more than a couple hundred bucks at most i would think.

I would say they could show through based on 2 variables; as RB stated the size and depth of the crack but also the type/thickness/pattern of the wrap. My guess is if the crack you are traying to cover is a surface crack that wood gets from age and if you run your finger over you do not feel the "crack" then you should not see it in the final wrap.

I've experienced all my cracks showing through so if I was to do it again in the future, adn I was determined that I would never go back to wood trim (removing vinyl wrap) I'd definitely sand the cracks down with some 1000 or 2000 grit sand papers and then wash them. you'll be happy you did.
see my pics of my vinyl wrap.
http://www.xoutpost.com/944841-post8.html notice in the first picture how my cracks show through my drivers door trim piece?

I used 3M wrap and they do not show. Could it be because 3M is thick ( not sure about other brand) and also probably because i used the CF pattern.
Try to get a small sample of the wrap you want to use and cover a cracked area ( no need to remove the trim for the test) and you'll see.

Great input. I think I'll go for it with a little sanding and the use of 3M brand wrap. Now to decide on the color. I have beige leather and was thinking matt black, but I really like brushed aluminum too. I think the aluminum color would break up the black dash better, but I think the matt black would look better on the doors. The carbon looks awesome too. Maybe that's the way to go as it's kind of a combo of both colors.

After all is done and if there are a few noticeable flaws, it will still be more appealing than light wood trim.
