Which alternator (120 or 90 amp) for 2003 X5

Hello everyone,

Does anybody know which alternator I should buy, the 120 amps or 90 amps for 2003 X5, 3.0i? I had my repaired and I am assuming it wasn't repaired properly because it is not charging my battery properly. I had bought 3 new batteries and they all go bad after one year. Since I have LPG installed, I had to remove the original battery and buy a little smaller. Currently I have Varta 95 Ah, 830 A which is the most powerful I could find to fit on the side in the trunk.

Thanks for your help,

When looking for parts I only see a 120 amp and 140 amp listed for the 2003 3.0L.

I checked Advanced Auto Parts and they show 120 and 90 amp alternators. Maybe that is incorrect. Could anyone tell me which is the right one for my vehicle please? Thanks

I would never trust advanced auto parts with bmw parts.

The only way you're going to be able to tell is by the part number on your original alternator. Or maybe call bmw and give them your VIN.

I thought there is someone who knows this. I guess I have to take a look at the one that is in my car. I was trying to save the trip to the mechanics. Thanks.

There are two alternators listed for the 2003. 120 amp and 140 amp. So nobody is going to know without looking at the original.

Original alternator doesn't have any markings. There was sticker on it but when someone repaired it, they tore it up so I can't find out which one was it. I believe I have most of the electronics. I don't have the heated seats in the back. So, does anybody know if 140 amp would be the right one then?

Thanks

I have heard but not confirmed that trucks with heated seats get the 140amp.

My own truck has the cold weather package with heated seats and has a 140amp.

Funny, seem to have run into the exact opposite, Bosch for 120's and Valeo for 140's.
