TiAgX5, with closer review, you are correct, my airbags deployed at 60mph with no collision at all. No one was in the passenger seat (Thankfully). Any thoughts?

I'm sure BMW will repair at their cost, if not go to the TV stations in your area and talk with someone in their consumer affair dept.

So I would start digging deeper..

1. you indicate it was not in an accident...how do you know for sure? if your relying on carfax and such they are not always reliable

2. was the car bought locally as in the DMV? If so find out where serviced and get the records pulled at the local BMW dealer. If bought from Private Owner did they provide ANY records at all?

3. Did you get a PPI, what were the findings if any?

4. If not bought locally could this have been a flood car or had water infiltration?

This is just paths I would start going down and my .02 Good Luckand keep us updated

OptimusPriM5,

Thanks for the input - much appreciated - the thing is, I am one owner, I drove it off the showroom floor, and I have put all 130k miles on the clock myself. So I know the history well - absolutely no accidents or collisions.

What is a PPI?

Ahhh sorry misunderstood your original post thought you just aquired this vehicle. My comment on a PPI is moot then.

Keep us informed.

the computer should have a fault/trigger code stored... it will indicate that the air bag deployed because sensor XXX triggered it... whatever you do, make sure you do NOT ERASE that information from the memory until you have it printed out or otherwise saved...

There are several criteria must be met in order for the bag to deploy... under "normal" circumstances (accident is no way a "normal" circumstance) the GM evaluates whole bunch of info before deciding that the bag should open... it would be interesting to see what the computer holds...

I know I-270, it is a wide open road and when not in traffic jam, the cars flow fast... and today the Feds were closed for business, so the traffic should be only regular folks doing their laundry and grocery shopping...

keep us posted on the developments...
