School me on Nav DVD's - dealer $200 backordered for 2 momths

Like the ridiculously long title says i called my dealer to see about getting the upgraded nav disc and he said due to some issue they have been having they are back ordered for 2 months. He also said they cost $200 which is more than I would ever want to pay for an update. Where do you guys get these from? Are these ebay sets any good BMW E39 E46 E53 E65 E66 E83 E85 E86 Navigation 2014 DVD East West Map Update | eBay

guess I should have put this in the nav. sub forum oops. Anywyas while were here I have absolutely no clue where to begin here. It sounds like firmware should probably be updated to but i just don't know any of this lingo or even how to check what I have.

edit - I just found the school on my own http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all...ystem-faq.html

now i just need to figure out why the link to "elimite accept screen" goes nowhere.

Not sure what you are trying to do.

Do you want the latest road and route info?
Or, do you want to upgrade the firmware that the Navigation disk requires to work?

I want the latest maps too, but can't seem to find the correct version anywhere. I can find map discs for the newer nav systems, but not for the MKIV system. seems you can download every map disc known to man, except the one I need.

Basically my car has not been updates since it was new in '04. I want to uprgade to the lastest firmware and maps. If at any way possible I want to get rid of the nav screen and a custom opening (think they call it splash) screen would be awesome.

I found a download for the firmware. BMW Navigation Files @ neiloakley.com

and I downloaded v32 but not sure if I just save it to a cd now and slide it in or what. I will prly just buy the maps on ebay for $15. I'm sure if they don't work they are free so.

it seems like theres plenty of info on what to do once you have these disks but very little info on how to actually get said disk. The only people talking in the nav section kind of appear to be wiz's that already know whats going on. . .
