Engine Service Soon-Reset?

I need help on how to reset the Engine Service Soon Light.

I know how to rest the oil service light. Hold left button, turn key to 1 position and the oil resets.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can be done with an ODBII code reader. No button will clear it.
What's the code/cause of it? Did you have it fixed?

If you repair the cause of the light coming on, it will usually go off on it's own.

Resetting it without curing the underlying problem is going to be a temporary fix only.

Thanks...I thought it was "service engine soon" meaning next tune up like on my past three 7 series, you had an oil reset light and a service reset. I guess this is a "check engine light"

I'm finding it's emissions related. It's 6 degrees here all week so that has something to do with it. I'll check the gas cap and hope it cycles off. I was doing some reach and it could be anything and you have to pull codes just to get started.

Car is running perfectly.

The "service engine soon" light on a BMW is the same as a Check Engine light on most other cars.

Does the car idle rough and the light flash when you start it in the cold?

Many auto part stores will read codes for free (unless you're in California)
Have it read and report back.

Can't tell if you're in the USA and if you are...can't tell which state....but as mentioned above, most states except California and perhaps Oregon...auto parts stores will read your OBD II codes for free.

Without the DTC (diagnostic trouble code)...it could be anything...getting the code at least points you in the direction by identifying the sensor that set the fault code.

Thanks for all your help.....the car runs perfectly...never better. Recently the dealer replaced the valley pan gasket and a thermostat about 2 weeks ago. I'm hoping the gas cap is loose or the 6 degrees here in NJ temporally set something off. 2002 4.4 83,000 miles.

You can reset/clear the computer without a tool by;
-Hold Gas pedal to the floor
-Turn key to #2 position
-Continue to hold the pedal to the floor for and hold for 30 seconds
-Release the gas pedal and press it to the floor for and hold for 10 secs
-With the key still in the 2nd position start the car (foot off the gas)

I'll mess with this over the weekend.
