power tailgate in E53?

Recently i was challenged in my upper torso mobility which made me think if a power tailgate operation (of top hatch) is possible to retrofit... the facelift E53 already has a 'soft-close" which can be helpful in closing phase...

there is a german company, Brose Fahrzeugteile, that is supposedly capable of retrofits... unfortunately, there is not much info...

any thoughts?

There's not enough info on it. For me, it doesn't worth the works to retrofit the feature. I would use the other arm in your case

Get-well soon, Fariz.

Husband abuse...
I have never had to use both arms on upper or lower tailgate.

Unless you are driving a Meals on Wheels route and have to open the gate a couple dozen times a day, I think it's an expensive 'fix' in search of a problem.

Getting older is hell, when it comes to healing up and healing time, in my experience.

Wishing you a speedy recovery T!

As for the retrofit....those parts look like they have some good thought put behind them. You may run into trouble with concealing them however. The factory hatch struts (if memory serves me right) are maybe 15-20mm in diameter. I'm not sure you could get those actuators (which are listed as 33mm diameter) to tuck without some "convincing". I don't think it would be that hard of a retrofit, but certainly wouldn't be a simple bolt-up procedure. It definitely be a nice feature to have for the mobility challenged (or us lazy people) but would likely end up being one of those more-work-than-it's-worth mods.

Hahahaha Faz.... you look so joyful in your picture.... Now tell us the truth.... She cranked up on you, didn't she! lol

In any case, if this is something you really wanted to try... you could go to one of those Handicap retrofitting places. They do a lot of custom work. There is one not too far from the house, the did a power tailgate in a 2004 Cayenne last month a believe. They marketed the crap out of it... I guess they were looking for custom work. Not many people needing custom fab work i guess
