You guys are hilarious... I bought the big guy about a year and 1/2 ago and honestly love the car to death!! I am surely not scared to pass someone on the expressway like they are standing still, but redline daily... I don't think so!

The big guy in thirsty tho! about a qt. every 2-4k miles... ( he's a little more hungry in the summer time with the oil ) 91+ only!

I still do say FUUUU to the development team that did the N62.. it's almost like it's setup for fail if you don't change out the cooling cap and clean out these CCV's in combination with the colder weather!

I guess that's why the price tag was so high... and yes, the guy I bought it from showed me the receipt for $87k with all the tax, title etc..etc..

OP: disagree with your point that you drive it long enough to boil off the moisture. Your photos are proof to the contrary. Is 20 m referring to minutes or miles? What does oil temperature get to, and how long does it stay there?
20 miles one way. sometimes it could be 20 minutes, sometimes an hour

I'd love to see your post on the Tahoe forum if you had gone with a 50k 2014 with one of it's markers out.

FUUUUU 50k & they can't get both front markers to work out of the box?????

I have been driving my x5 for 50,000kms last 2 years

Drive it realy hard, manual shifting to redline atleast 2 times a day, getting oil temp up 100'C and have since stopped using oil and very little milk on ccv

First owner showed me price tag 105,000$ CND

I have a very heavy "Lead-Foot" type of driving style

change oil around 10,000km or 3-4 months makes a big difference and don't use Castrol, it sucks (coming from experience)
use liqua moly if you are in a hot area use Synthoil High Tech 5 W-40

I think you guys are missing what the OP is trying to say. First of all he's obviously venting a little, I think he's saying how in the hell can BMW charge 90 grand for a vehicle but can't get something as simple as a CCV system to operate properly? We all should be asking the same question instead of giving BMW a pass and blaming the operator, saying "you didn't drive it long enough or the engine isn't getting hot enough." Reminds me of those who place blame on the driver when a rear window regulator fails, they say "it's your fault for closing your rear doors with the the window rolled down." So now I have a $90K vehicle that I'm afraid to close the rear doors on...lol! We all know BMW did very little to fix the cold weather CCV problem, and did nothing at all to fix the window regulator problem, the door handle carrier problem, the list goes on and on. I worked for BMW for 3 years and I can tell you that reliability is not at the top of their list of customer concerns.

+1
Too often we trade reliability for the "Driving Experience", though the latter is true, there is no excuse for the pretty "minor" stuff that breaks on these cars. Don't get me wrong I have had about 13 BMW's and still love them.. As guess the perverbial "love hate" relationship..

romeokc10:
I understood the OP's first post...

It wasn't a "$90G" car to him, thankfully.

They do not like cold weather/short trips and their CCV situ is unique, in my 50+ years of driving. I would be pissed too.

Our 13+ yr old 3.0 hasn't suffered it, yet.
