Soft Touch Blues

Here soon I'll be removing my door panels to replace the speakers for my DSP upgrade and while I'm at it I'd sure like to do something about the unsightly chipping "soft touch" paint on the inside handle pulls. But $80 bucks each for replacements is pretty steep. I've searched for "soft touch" paint online with hardly any results. I was hoping to find it in both the color I need and in spray can form. But that would be too easy, of course.

Anyone restored yours with good results that care to share? I'm game.

Plasti dip. Did it on all my grab handles and plastic pieces of my old 99 VW when I converted to black headliner about 8 years ago.

It's meant to be touched, and dries to a finish that is very similar if not dead on to the color you have now.

Just remove the handle, wipe down well with rubbing alcohol, and do 3 LIGHT coats, very light with the product since its rubberized finish. Let dry well and they will look good as new and be touchable for years to come without peeling!

I'm gonna try it, RB. I was concerned PD might be too "rubbery" and not adhere well enough for a door pull. And their Gun Metal gray does seem to come pretty close to my orginal color.

Thanks, you've made my day

Sure thing man. I know the black matches the black/anthracite pieces bc I used it before. I'm sure gunmetal or gray should match yours. Now that I mention it, 4 light coats should do the trick.
