HELP needed to wire back up cam. Pioneer F-90bt unit.

So i wired the RCA cable to the back and ,now i need to connect power unit so that he turns on when i put gear in Reverse. Should i get positive from the reverse lamp? Any ideas? Anyone installed aftermarket back-up cam?

I am not sure what you are powering when in reverse. The back up camera itself? or is this some sort of a power line going to the pioneer unit???

If it is to power the back up camera itself (they usually have a very low power consumption), I would just use the reverse lamp.

I am planning to get a powerline for reverse camera unit itself, and in order to turn it on when going reverse only i decided to power it up throught reverse lamp positive and negative wires. Any ideas?

I installed reverse camera yesterday,it took me 8 hours,to make it professional looking and no wires hanging and etc. had to remove luggage door trim and much more other trims. I am happy with the results :-) It worth that time. The longest part was to wire back-up light wire to navigation unit and camera wire to the front to the reverse camera module. If anyone has question I will be happy to help.

Good to ear you got it going. I did mine via a bosch relay since the backup light had static when used as the power for the camera. From what I was told the reverse wire has a pulsed 12V so it can cause a static to the video output.

The relay is switched on by the reverse light and the power is pulled directly from the battery.

I installed the Z110bt and I love it. Works some much better than the OEM.

So i wired the back-up camera module positive wire to ACC,and negative i grounded it. The wire i had to connect was a reverse(wire which tells navigation when car goes reverse),so i hatd to connect it to the positive wire of back-up light.

I connected mine inside the tailgate, near the left B/U light.

The first unit was a transmitter type and had all sorts of static. Not good.

They sent me another and it was staticy as well.

The third unit is a cable type that is run from the rear to the front and it works just fine.

Can't tell you if the transmitter designs are simply no good or if the problem is from pulsing wires or some other BMW oddity. You would think that a cable would suffer if the power through it was pulsating in some way. I would suspect some sort of interference if anything, but who knows.

These should have been standard!

My backup light only puts out 10.5 volts. Anyone have the same voltage?

Where are you getting this reading? I spliced my positive at the left back-up light in the tail gate. Never checked the voltage.

I took care to run the ground out of the gate to where other grounds connected inside the spare area.

Maybe you need to run that test again using a better ground or check it against the battery in the X and also in another car.

Was your battery low because you were screwing around with wiring and stuff and had the gate open for a long time? I have heard this can happen...

Ok, to finish up my last post. 10.5 volts i not enough to switch the backup camera correctly. When I connect my green wire to the reverse lights, my monitor just keeps flashing. Put 12 volts to it and it switches correctly. I ended up using a relay. reverse lights activate the relay and I have battery power to power the green wire. Works perfectly.
