The garage door remote and BMW

Found an obscure post. Seems the usual instructions are correct. But that's only half of it.

You do the usual clear function. Then hold the remote close. Hit both simultaneously.

BUT, hit the remote a few times lingering as you press. But don't release the BMW button you're teaching.

Now the invisible part 2 instruction set: climb the ladder and hit the learn button there. Run to the X and hit the button you're teaching and depress three times. Why? The system needs to learn how to be a remote first. Then you need to 'marry' your X5 car remote to the base.

That's what's been missing. Hope this helps someone else.

The way I did was by first pushing the button on the garage motor (that stays in learn mode for about 30 sec), then press and hold the button you want to use on your homelink until the garage motor light flickers. You might have to press and hold the button on the garage opener, but try it without first.

Thanks for posting Bruce. This procedure has always been a pain in the arse every time I've moved.

I pressed the learn button on my door opener..

Got in my X5 and held the 1 button on the roof console until my garage door opener flashed...

It's worked perfectly since. Yes, it was that simple.
