I've retrofit this in my X5. The PDC control unit is under a plastic cover next to the battery (under your spare tire). The wiring harness from the rear sensors passes through the rear (metal) panel at the right side, you'll see a grommet. From memory the multipin connector is black - but it's been 18+ months since I did the installation.
If you are trying to diagnose your PDC, do your reverse lights switch on? Can you activate the PDC from the button near your ash tray? Did you check the fuse (it's in the front fuse box and labeled)?
