Unless the OPs transfer case only accepts ATF per spec ( some model ),

Maybe this not apply to the op vehicle:
The later xdrive models uses power divider fluid by BMW ( like my x ) and throws a vtg oil wear warning using a scan tool + reset the clutch wear counter after changing the fluid

If tranny comment from my post is mis leading, to the main / orig topic... Pls ignore

Thanks for any additional replies. I went with Mobil 1 synthetic ATF for the non xdrive transfer case and Mobile 1 synthetic 75 90 for both differentials.

I am glad I checked first since I wrongly assumed at used the same fluid as my e46 330xi.

This 3.0 is so slow compared to the 4.4 I used to own, but I only use it as a wagon and like that the engine is the same as the e46 330si I still use.

I have learned so much on this site.

Good choice of fluids. I used redline but similar grades as you in mine.

You'd enjoy the 3.0 in the E53 a lot more with a manual trans, trust me

Yeah, I could not find one and this one was in such good conditions with stacks of receipts for work done that I could not pass.So much of the preventive work had been done for me and I only paid 5350.00 for it.

I hope to be able to do a swap to a manual transmission when this tranny fails. My daily driver is a six speed 545i sport and I have the x5 and 330xi as spare cars for winter and hauling things.
