For those with INPA and the diag tools

I'm curious on how the system shows faults

When you clear the faults, do all faults clear

When you see a fault, does it just show you the fault and how many times it had occurred. Meaning 3 faults. Or does it get more detailed like during 30 ignition cycles, it's faulted X times. Or does it even show at what mielage.

How far back does it show *old faults* or how does a mechanic set a baseline based on what *faults* he may see but you don't see any fault lights on the dash.

Just curious...

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
It shows all old faults from when they were last cleared

You have to interrogate each module separately to see the faults. So, if you're in the engine module and clear a fault, it will clear only the faults in this module, but not the ones in the transmission module and others.

When inside a module, each fault will be listed with the mileage, and other pertinent data, like engine rpm, temperature, number of times it occurred and some more that I don't remember.

If you don't clear the faults, they will stay there, even if you read them.
A mechanic will read the faults, then clear them, run the car, and re-read the faults and see which one comes back instantly, or after some days etc.
Usually a solid defect will trigger a fault instantaneously while an operation defect, like a leaking gas cap may take a few starting cycles to trigger a fault.
You will need to read the faults more frequently if you are trying to debug a problem.

Exactly. RPM, time, mileage, some more shit.

Wow. Looks like I'm going to jump the INPA bandwagon instead of being at the mercy of not being to see the codes

Here is an example of a print out from my car. note that the mileage is in kms, and the date is day/month/year, the temps in celcius... I was troubleshooting a misfire, and after a few days of testing, clearing the codes, reading the modules, i narrowed it down to a coil in cylinder 5 - replaced the coil with OEM - issue resolved...
