so i have a strange squealing noise coming from around the DISA (which i just replaced about 6 months ago). my first thought is vacuum leak, but the weird thing is the noise is loudest on idle and when i step on gas the pitch goes down and it almost goes away. isn't that technically the opposite of what a vacuum leak would do? the noise is not there immediately on startup, but generally starts 1-3 minutes after starting the car. it does have a tendency to come and go. i pulled the plug on the DISA and the noise stopped a few seconds later...however i tried this again another day and the noise did NOT stop after unplugging the DISA. i did notice, however, that if i gently push on the DISA electrical connector, the pitch of the noise changes. once it actually went away entirely after pushing down a few times on the electrical connector. i did a bunch of work last summer which included replacing the DISA, the intake boot, vcg, vanos rings/bearings, water pump, entire CCV system...so a vacuum leak does seem a bit unlikely to me. this noise also just started about a month ago. we did have an extremely cold winter this year, not sure if that would matter.
i'm going to pull the DISA this weekend and inspect it...wondering if the o-ring is bad or just not seated properly...but i thought i'd throw this up here to get some input before i start pulling things apart. i'm not getting a CEL or any codes for that matter (using INPA). car seems to run fine otherwise, except i have noticed a decline in MPG, but that could be related to other items (O2 sensors are next on the list to replace).
thanks in advance!
