Air bag/seat mat recall

Anyone have any new info on this, I called and was told that the parts will be available "soon?" and I will get a letter.....WELL !!!!

Good question....I got my letter in January....but no follow up letter to tell me parts are available and appointment should be made!

My X5 does this too and I just registered online with BMW. Thought the fix parts would be out by now but looks like I have to wait as well.

Rcvd this yesterday after an inquiry on status:

Thank you for writing to BMW of North America, LLC regarding our amended voluntary recall announcement for the front passenger air bag seat occupancy sensor mat for certain 2006-2007 models depending upon seat type.

The following models are included:

Model Year Model Inclusive Dates of Manufacture

2006-2007 3 Series Sedan/Sports Wagon (Sports Seat) December 2005 – September 2006
2006-2007 5 Series Sedan/Sports Wagon (Standard/Sport Seat) December 2005 – September 2006
2006-2007 7 Series (all seat types) December 2005 – September 2006
2006 X5 SAV (all seat types) December 2005 – September 2006

If your vehicle is affected by this recall, you will receive an additional letter via First Class Mail by May indicating parts availability. Owners of affected vehicles can continue to drive their vehicles; however, if you should receive a recall letter, we recommend having this service performed as soon as possible after receipt of the letter.

If you have previously paid for these repairs, you may be eligible for reimbursement under the TREAD Act. Please present copies of your owner notification letter and the previously paid invoice to your local authorized BMW center. They will be able to perform an inspection of the part in question and submit the necessary paperwork to begin the process of potential reimbursement.

BMW remains committed to maintaining the highest level of automotive excellence. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience should your vehicle be affected by this recall.
