CD Player Not Working

I recently picked up a 2003 x5 and just discovered the CD player (generic in-dash style) doesn't work (ie won't take a cd). Are there any common issues with this type of player? Or should I just assume its dead? Also anyone know of a tutorial on how to remove the stereo unit?

I would try to pull the radio fuses with the key off to try to "reboot" it.

On my model there are 2 fuses in the trunk fuse boxes labeled radio

Is there any sign of power to the unit? Check the fuse but you may need to get it repaired. Google BMW CD player repair or look for a replacement on e-bay.

To remove, you first take out the MID (the display under the CD player) and then there are 2 torx screws at the bottom of the player. Google that, too (the E39 5 series is similar):
