Fuse 48

Okay, so I have been researching a problem I have been having with my fuse 48... where it pops probably every month, sometimes twice a month. I found an article on how to fix the problem.

The last post on there says:

Well I did resolve the problem. I removed the module and cleaned out the fan as was suggested by @Zulu95. You should see the stuff that was clogging the fan!
I have not had a problem since.

I remember reading (either here or on xoutpost) that the little fan that draws air to the cabin sensor can pop a fuse when it get dirty. You might want to try a search to see if you can find the relevant post on either board. All it took was a quick blow out using canned air to cure the problem.

However, I don't know what the cabin sensor fan is or how to access it, does anyone have more information on exacting where and what this little fan is?

On either side of the HVAC head unit there are little "grills" the fans lie behind. I blow mine out every so often just to keep things running. Just like the fans in computers they grab every piece of garbage in the air and gum themselves up.

Is there any documentation on outpost showing how to remove the fan from the module, and clean it?

I think they're referring to the control module with the buttons on it in the lower dash section. The small grated areas are where the air gets drawn in to, so there is a fan somewhere in there or accessible from the rear of that unit. I've never heard of that being the issue, but the Germans never cease to surprise me. If you get it out or apart, take some pics and post please.

ECS has some pics that show all sides of the module. You can see a rather large grate at the back. I assume you can blow it out through there.

This topic has been discussed enough on bimmer forums that a simple google search should pull up images of the "IHKA sampling fan". If you add Qsilver7 to that last phrase in qoutes and search google images...you'll probably get a direct hit.

BTW...the fan draws air in thru the left grill on the IHKA control panel.
