EML after hard acceleration-SOLVED

I have been getting 2 separate kinds of EML situations.

1) When engine braking the EML/traction/brake/abs lights come on. The vehicle has slow throttle response as if it were in a "fast" limp mode. This is always remedied by restarting the car.

2) During hard acceleration, when letting off the gas to change gears, it appears the throttle responds about a half second late, at which point the EML and other lights come on and I get zero throttle response. if I restart the car with my foot on the clutch it will rev all the way to redline and some times normal function will resume, sometimes it will just sit there and sputter.

I'm told there is a syncing process or procedure for the throttle/pedal assembly. Is this something I can do on my own? can anyone link me to it? It took me nearly 30mins to cross the street after lunch today because I couldn't drive back! Very frustrating.

My issue was solved after replacing my DISA, torn lower intake elbow, and cleaning the IACV.

DISA valves are found found on the M54 engines. They are used to vary the intake runner length for performance depending on throttle opening.

Interesting !

Was there any slow indication of this issue or it just hit you like fast ball ?
And what's the mileage?

Did you replace the DISA with OE or OEM or the gas version ( updated)

I had no specific indication it was bad. In fact it made no noise, or rattle as is common when they fail. I pulled it to inspect and found my DISA valve "flapper" was loose on the arm and not being controlled. The pin fell out, and I was unable to verify it had vacuum pressure without attempting to fix it with the update kit. The proper update kit is 80-90 dollars. I was pointed towards a brand new Dorman brand DISA for the 3.0 on Amazon for about 120.00, a steal over the 300.00 OEM valve.

I opted to go this route. I had a dirt IACV, and a lower intake elbow with major pieces missing. I also still do have what I consider a suspect MAF. That said, the truck was absolutely slow, probably running with somewhere around 120-130hp. When entering the highway, my lack of "giddy-up" was the only real indication there was something a miss. I know what a good running BMW should feel like, and this wasn't it. I'm glad I did replace it. Looked to me like the one I removed was the original. Truck had about 115k miles, 2001 Model Year.
