Headlight assembly replacement

I recently upgraded to led tail lights and am about to go for the headlights now... Anyone had to do any kind of modification to fit aftermarket HID lights or should they be a simple swap?

Search around. Lots of threads providing good information regarding eBay housings, Hella housings and DEPO housings. There have been quite a few retrofits using various Hella projectors and FX-R projectors. It can be as simple as bolt-in a new projector or as complicated as fabbing up your own mounting bracket.

Question is do you have stock xenon or not?

If you have stock xenon its considerably less money as you have good ballasts you can use.

If you have stock xenon's you can bake yours open, install angel eyes and do some other upgrades internally to "give them a facelift", I see you have an '01 so yours would bake open.

I have a set of LED rings to fit stock E53 headlighst as well if you need a set, I haven't decided whether I want to do a retrofit on the Depo headlights or use stock headlights.

I believe I have the stock xenons... I was planning on going with these:

Euro Black Daytime DRL LED 2 Halo Projector Headlights Parking 01 03 BMW x5 E53 | eBay

But I noticed it said ( Will Not Fit The Model With Factory Xenon HID ) and that (Modification Might Be Required For Using HID Lighting System). So I'm guessing these will not fit then?

You're fucking kidding me right?

Why the hell would you ever buy those piece of shit ugly ass headlights? Pardon my french but many of the members here would take someone out in the back and shoot them if we actually considered those lights an "upgrade".

The LED tails are a definite upgrade (I have them), but not those lights.

I can build your set if you want to send them to me and they would look 100x better than those. Like I said, your headlights are able to be opened as you have a 2001 and would probably look and operate the best.

If you have stock xenon, and are dead set on new, quality upgraded lights the only option right now is to buy the $700 Depo set seen here:

4 Halogen Model 00 03 BMW E53 x5 LED Angel Halo Xenon Projector Headlight Depo | eBay

I can build your lights similar to looking like this:

Or basically anything in between, many options and members have made their headlights look differently as well.

Do you just want an aesthetic look or did you want to upgrade to superior projectors and lighting too? Your bulbs are 12 years old and probably dim so I would put fresh Philips bulbs in at the time of upgrade.

Let me know your thoughts and if you want your stock xenon set "upgraded" by me I'm more than happy to do it for a small fee but you'd have to send them to Jersey.

Ha! I love your reaction Didnt realize they were absolute crap lol. I was going for upgrade as well as asthetics. Currently my right headlight isnt even pointing straight anymore. What would it cost to have you upgrade them?

PM me if you would like more info, however I would verify that your headlights are intact first before sending to me for "refurbishments and upgrades", as I cannot guarantee a fix if something is sent to me broken. Sounds like your self level motor isn't working anymore? or is the one just off on adjustment?
