is this important?

part #14 in the link:

RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 3.0i Door trim panel, front / side airbag

saw it on the ground when I was replacing the power window regulator assembly yesterday in my front right door.

couldnt for the life of me figured where it went so I put the door back together hoping something would be wobbly or not right somewhere but everything went back together just fine and fits/works as it should.

its called a grip support but honestly I dont know if its needed especially since it was so easy to just fall out. I'm going to keep it for a little while anyway.

That's what holds the panel in place in the middle. When you pull the door by the handle to close it that's one support point. I would put it back. It slides on the metal part 8 exactly there part 14 shows up in the picture.

gotcha.

glad I kept it, will likely pull the panel off in a couple days and put it back in when I replace the two clips that broke.

Every screw and part in the vehicle was installed with a purpose in mind so yes it is important.
