It serves no function other than to tell you that your coolant level is ok. It's not electrically connected to anything, as far as I know. You have to have the expansion tank cap off for it to show the true level anyway.
Don't worry, you'll be replacing it soon enough when your expansion tank inevitably cracks...

True with 85k miles its only a matter of time. Wasnt sure if it was connected to a sensor or something. Thanks, least now i dont have anything to worry about

I would replace before it cracks. Usually doesn't crack when it is convenient. Just a suggestion.

ya i think im gonna get on the lift hopefully next weekend and do the updated power steering reservoir, do the tank and hoses as well.
