Idle issues on start up

I've had this issue almost since i bought this car last year but i think it is getting worse... it used to be (or i think it used to be) only when the car was cold, but now even if the car sits on the sun for a few hours when i start it - same issue occurs every time...if i start the car and wait for 1:10-1:20 minutes it feels like rpms are dropping below 500 rpms and car chokes like it wants to stall but never does, RPMS go back up and the car idles fine after that...
Here is the video of how the engine sounds (start from about 1min into the video). While recording the video with an open hood i also noticed there is also a clanking noise that happens at the same time... Never heard it from the inside. No engine light, no error codes...

Any ideas?

I hear a high pitched noise, as if in a vacuum leak but the engine sounds as if there are NO leaks... so the high pitched noise could be mechanical...

Around 1:00 mark or so, i heard some rattling and slight drop in idle, not something i would consider a choke - did i miss something? mine ('06 4.8is) does a similar thing from your description - cold start, high RPMs about 20-40 seconds later RPMs drop to 500-700 range and I start driving off... On some occasions I do not pull out, as I am tangled up doing something, and hear as if the engine stops (drop in RPMs acoustically below 400), but it recovers real fast and continues as if nothing happened...

No codes, nothing even on the live monitoring of the engine, other then a registered drop in the RPMs for about split moment...

The WDS claims that the cold car has no actual values reporting from various sensors, such as oil pressure, oil temperature, coolant temperature and runs off standard values pre-programmed into the car... once the information becomes available, the fixed values are replaced with actual values and the idle drops fro high initial idles to normal idles... when the car is warm started, the values are read right away... when the car cools off, oil drains down, the cycle starts again... however, i never saw any reference to the "choke" at the beginning of the cycle...

mystery...

Bring it in to a BMW dealer and have them tell you what is the problem. Make sure you are sitting down when they tell you the cost to repair the BM Trouble U.

My problem is exactly what TermX is describing... from what i have read on this forum, Intermediate levers issue shows different signs - with car shaking and rattling and requiring restart for problem to stop... i do not experience any of that...
If it is in fact intermediate lever issue, i know what the cost associated with it is, and no i will never be taking my car to the dealer to get any out of warranty work done... there are always more reliable and cheaper options

Ive had this issue as well. Usually tgese kind of issues are related to fuel and lubrication. Im running the new Pennzoil pure plus platinum (its the only GTL base stock oil, which i hate to say actually surpasses our OE oils and is on par with our higher grades) and did a dose of p.i. with Lucas UCL mix. Changed out the plugs, cleaned the intake, cleaned the CCV and oil seperator. I did a long run before the last oil change driving non stop till the gas light came on, filled up with V power, mixed another does of UCL then let it sit (amsoil P.I. has Polyetheramines or PEA which clean as the vehicle sits. Next day did the oil change and now shes runnin like a brand spankin new truck....well aside from the trans issue that needs to addressed lol.

Sadly I'm havin the same problem and was told it's intermediate levers, but have yet to get it fixed. its a rough idle on start up at any temperature now. not as viscous as it was months again the wintery death we seen in Calgary this last 7 months, but i feel this winter took its toll on my n62.
makes me mad it costs sooooo much to fix this. May look into the e70 x5M instead but I do not trust BMW turbos really, or any turbo in that regard
