Tyre wear

Hi
My two rear tyres look fine and have a lot of tread on them However, when taken off, the inside edge is almost worn away! They have to be replaced. Is this normal?

There is a noise from the back. When driving straight it is fine, but slightest touch on the steering and there is this sound that something is rubbing. On inspection there is nothing that appears to be rubbed. Any ideas? Think this is related to the tyres?

Thanks for any help.

The camber is probably out of spec. Have an alignment done.

I have the same issue and excessive toe in on the rear is the problem.

If you have no noise from the rear going straight and a rubbing noise while turning slightly I would check suspension and wheel bearings.

Thanks, I'll get an alignment done.

What would I be looking for on the suspension and wheel bearings? How can I tell where the fault is?

Common problem on E53. The factory toe-in setting in the rear is that make the tires wear inside like that. Have the toe set as close to 0 as possible will help saving the rear tires. I have mine set to 0.01 which is as close to 0 as the technician can do (this is out-of-spec) The X5 handle fine and no more excessive inner tire wear.

+1. The ball joints if they never been replaced replace them although it's hard to tell when they are broken.

I killed a set of tires in a year in the back because of having it lowered alot and not paying attention.

I got a new set october 2013, i am still lowered, got my camber dialed in as close as possible which was still -2.5 on both sides, and i want some camber regardless even if for the look.

I also got the toe zeroed out on both sides. Insides of the tires are just like the outsides and its been over 6 months now. Minimal wear anyways on the whole tire
