clamp issues go on

ok this is my next worry now i have replacement clamp for the inner smaller end of the outer cv boot please see pic....if the below statement i found onlilne does apply how on earth do i clean the inner circumference of the cv boot ie the portion the actual clip clamps on? and do so without removing cv boot etc

"If stock clamps are not getting the job done, there's almost always one of two things going on. Either the boot and the band are not lined up to and seated in the grooves in the axle, or there's grease on the axle or boot where the clamp goes. If you've got grease under it, it's never gonna stay. Keep it surgically clean when you put it together, and the stock type bands"

Omodos, the E53 has two types of the outer CV boot - and even a dealer may have a hard time figuring out which one your car has... They are Type A and Type B...

I would suggest calling your dealer and giving them your VIN number and see which CV boot part they tell you - you can PM me your last 7 of VIN, I can ask the parts guys at BMW of Fairfax - last time they told me my boot correctly...

04 Repair kit bellows, interior 2 31607507403 ENDED
04 Repair kit bellows, interior 2 31607565315 $60.98

only applies to condition "B"

only applies to version "A"

I really appreciate you reply, I am very confident the parts installed are correct, ok let me clarify the one side has a febi boot

Checked my chassis number on realoem and it states 31607507402 which is the type A and the shaft has the same shape as shown on realoem, I looked at it on the car.

And the febi had part number printed on box is 31607507402

Other ‘problem’ boot is GKN Loebro and I don’t have the box but markings are the same as those sold on ebay, again the part number on the gkn boxes show same as the realoem ie 31607507402- compare codes printed on my actual boot to those sold online, so sure it is ok.

Difference being the febi has an oetiker clamp with 33mm marked on it and the gkn has a clamp on it marked 35mmm AND loose, so I figured I try to use a 33mm clamp from another febi boot kit I installed and see….for sure the small end of the boot should not move left to right should it? But both are the correct boots, so go figure, just think the gkn boot had sub quality clips ,its not tight and not right.

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
I used the GKN kit with perfectly fine results. The clamp went into the next to last tooth if I recall correctly, and when tightened with the proper clamps was solid.

Did you see this picture from RealOEM and confirmed if you have axle "A" or axle "B"? A I think was for early builds.

My 2006 4.8 has a 31 60 7 507 402 boot as confirmed by a dealer... So, I am not so sure about the dates for the Type B - the RealOEM shows both types with the same dates, as if they both were being produced concurrently...

strange...

BTW, Omodos, what was the resolution of your "mirror-against-mirror" accident, when you were blamed for swerving onto that lady's lane? Did you prevail??

Ricky Bobby it is A for sure you can't make it out in the pics of the shaft but as I move the small end of the bellow inwards towards wheel there is that ridge on shaft and this tallies with the realoem and the gkn and febi part numbers....may have just been a dud clamp or the mechanic just didn't clamp it enough

oh man don't remind me, I had to pay half her costs, and am so irate at the insurance company...who paid up, their logic was if we take it too court the coming and going and proving one way or another could clock up a bill for them of 1000's....a few weeks later my wife rear ended just slightly another car...minimal damage....she asked how other driver was she said fine....an hour later wife/n my insurance company got a letter from this woman's lawyer claiming damages for bodily harm!so she went straight to a lawyer no dr. certificate or anything, insurance guy said there is group of known scammers involving dr.s lawyers who just conjure up these things so as to make money.....i am so irrate thinking about it....damn banana republic we live in! ahhh and the BMW dealers, jeez i called asking for separate clamps nope yo have to buy the whole kit he said, and I said i have seen those things online sold separately, if i bring my car in now what would you do? he suggested changing the whole boot...eventhough its just over 1 year old , joke eh?
