Auto gearbox drops down and revs high when descending..

BMW 2004 3.0d facelift - auto gearbox.
When I descend downhill and touch the brakes the car drops a gear and revs high.
How do I adjust this?..
Thanks.

I'd be surprised if you can adjust it. Mine (2006 3.0d) does the same. So did the ML benz I had previously.

My 4.8is does this too, i like it but it can be annoying on steeper hills like one by my old house would really downshift..

Usually i just slap it in M and keep it higher gear

this is apart of the programming, don't apply the brakes in a quick manner

apply them slower and it wont downshift

i put it in manual mode and keep the gears high. it makes me nervous when all of a sudden it downshifts to 3rd gear and RPM's go up to 4-5k...

I don't think there is a adjustment, just the way the transmission is programmed. My transmission is always hunting for gears, feels excessive sometimes. That probably adds to the failure rate of the trannies

It will downshift and upshift based on the rate of which u press your accelerator or brake

The car knows how fast u are jabbing the throttle or brake pedal, try it out

I have a 10 mile daily commute up and down hills the whole way into town. I've just gotten used to shifting manually coming and going. The hills drive the automatic transmission CRAZY!
