p0011 and p0021 codes. Need Fix

Hello everyone I got those 2 codes and my engine is running like a 20 year old diesel . I searched on the web and some are saying its the cam belt tensioner and some said the vanos need to be adjusted ( timing ) . Can anyone shed some light on what It will take to fix this and maybe some prices. Thank you

If you have the m62tu 8 cylinder (00-03) those codes usually mean early stage timing chain guide failure. I would check the chain guides and check the engine for sludge (usually sludge and chain guide failure go hand in hand).

Yes I have the 4.4 engine. And I am afraid I will need to replace them. What do you think it will cost to do this overhaul ?

No way not on a BMW. I have a good shop I use but in term or parts and labor what should I expect?. Also since I am in there should I replace other things ? Maybe a new chain as well?

P0011/0021 codes--Not good signs.

The timing is most likely off on both banks. I would not run the engine any more until you get it retimed in order to prevent catastrophic failure to the engine. Probably best to replace the chain guides and chain, too. This is labor intensive, $3-6K or more depending on labor cost and the work needed. Best to get BMW INDY to look it over.

Did you rule out the VANOS solenoids and/or the camshaft sensors?
